Putting people first, at the heart of design should be essential.
Biophilic Design is more than just a plant on our desk, it is an exciting systems-based way of recognising that every choice, every purchase, every activity, every decision has an impact on our health, our wellbeing our environment and planet.

THE COURSE - Biophilic Design in the Home
The energy behind this new course is to encourage more people to learn about and embrace the Biophilic Design movement. Many more people understanding what Biophilic Design is, it is still very much a new and exciting emerging subject. For a while now, commercial spaces have appreciated the business case for supporting Biophilic Design, in that when you have elements of nature in a space, it reduces stress, aid recuperation and has a result in lots of spaces that are important to our lives. There are 3 levels to Oliver Heath’s Biophilic Design in the Home course, history, evolutionary idea behind it, level 2, taking that idea forward, explains what the 14 patterns are behind Biophilic Design, including direct, indirect references to nature and the human spatial response and their importance also to the future of the home. Level 3 includes a live consultation with Oliver.

WORKPLACE
And what about the workplace? We are experiencing a re-evaluation of what the "office" means. Also, increasingly companies are recognising they do not necessarily need a big budget to put some plants or Biophilic enhancements in their workplace to help create better environments for their people.
Creating spaces which have fresher air, better light, a greater connection with nature will help their staff ease back into work. After the COVID pandemic and experiencing Lockdown, people are likely to experience some form of PTS and anxiety, so we need to design for mental wellbeing as well as physical health and aesthetics, which ultimately will help their productivity and creativity.
INTERIOR DESIGN DECLARES - At 00:27:05 Oliver tells us about a new initiative for Interior Designers, called “Interior Design Declares”, where designers have signed up to a 12 point pledge, to help mitigate the impact of the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. Every purchase, every choice, every decision, refurbishment, connection with a person has an impact and interior designers need to step up to the plate and recognise we have a role and an opportunity. It's a very exciting campaign for like-minded people to be involved with. It's open to designers and also materials suppliers to sign up and network. It's a place to have a voice, to discuss how the buildings in our lives affect our planet. In the second of our videocasts with Oliver Heath, we discuss how nature should be considered a fundamental element for the continuation of human life.
